The Secure Schools Program was announced in 2007 by the Attorney Gneral's Department that committed $20 million to assist at-risk government and non-government schools to meet their particular security needs. Funding is awarded on the basis of assessed security needs.
The main types of projects funded under the program involve security related infrastructure such as closed circuit television systems, fencing, lighting and improving window security.
The program has a targeted application process with State and Territory governments nominating schools for consideration for funding. Only those schools invited to apply for funding were eligible to receive funding under the program.
The Islamic College of Brisbane was invited to take part in this program based on the assessed security needs. The college received $100,000 (EX. GST) for installing closed circuit television system, fencing and access control system. The College is thankful to the Attorney General's Depart and the Australian Government for the funding.
