Multi-Purpose Hall Opening Ceremony

The official opening of the Islamic College of Brisbane's multi-purpose hall was held during the week attended by a number of invited guests and the pupils and staff of the college. The Hon Dr Craig Emerson MP unveiled the plaque that symbolized the culmination of months of planning and construction on the $3M project funded largely through the Federal government's BER school facilities initiative.

The projected was spearheaded by the Mr Mohammed Yusuf who thanked the government for its support for the facilities which would eventually benefit not only the school but the community in general. Head of Secondary at the school, Mr Ben Sullivan was the MC and Aunty Peggy Tidyman conducted the acknowledgement of the traditional elders of the lands.

There were speeches by the college captains, Ali Mokrani and Nisah Mehwish and songs by the college's nasheed group.

Mr Ikebal Patel and Mr Stephen Robertson MP congratulated the school on its achievements in their addresses to the audience as did the keynote speaker, Dr Craig Emerson MP.

There was a delightful performance of traditional outfits by students representing the diverse population of the school and a peace dialogue between Besma Ahmed and Makram Hamzi that showcased the philosophical objectives inherent in the teachings at the school.
